Australian scientists have discovered, that the death of a loved one or spouse often leads to death for the deceased. Usually, this occurs within three years after that sad event. The experts came to this conclusion after studying a few thousand married couples. The study found, 26 percent of men and 40 percent of women died after the death of his partner. The experts argued that the "widow effect" affect not only parents but also those in middle age.

The researchers concluded, that under the influence of a widow or widower, the surviving spouse in a short time potentially exposed to serious diseases such as cancer, or cardiovascular disorders, which in turn leads to death. Cases of suicide are also common in this situation.

The study authors identified an average duration of the effect of three years. However, in some cases, they suggest that trend may continue for 10 years.

According to figures presented in the journal Health, 12 people from that group died on the same day with their partners, 40 men after 10 days passed, and 35 people within six months after the death of his partner.
