Monopause Women Need More Calcium

You probably know, calcium is very useful for bone formation. But you know how much calcium is needed by the body anyway?

As quoted from everydayhealth, daily calcium needs depend on age and other factors. For example, teens need more calcium than adults.

"As adults, particularly post-menopausal women, need extra calcium to prevent osteoporosis due to low estrogen levels and cause decreased bone mass,"said Katherine Tallmadge, RD, spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association."

Here is a picture of how much calcium is needed based on age difference:

Child
0-6 months: 210 milligrams (mg) per day
7 months to 1 year: 270 mg
1 to 3 years: 500 mg
4 to 8 years: 800 mg
9 to 18 years: 1,300 mg

Adult
19 to 50 years: 1,000 mg
51 years and over: 1200 mg
Pregnant women and nursing mothers under the age of 19: 1,300 mg
Pregnant and lactating women over age 19: 1,000 mg

Formation of strong bones by eating calcium alone is not enough. You need the rules of eating and intake of vitamins as well.

"You need a balanced diet with adequate protein intake and vitamin D can help more quickly absorb calcium into your bones,"
